Counseling

 

Junipero Serra School’s counselor, Ms. Samaniego, works alongside teachers and parents to help students develop socially and emotionally, and to help remove any barriers they have to learning. 

She provides classroom lessons teaching social skills, study skills, how to take care of strong feelings and coping skills.  She offers small group counseling and short-term individual counseling.

Some of the areas that Ms. Samaniego helps students with are making and keeping friends, setting goals, teamwork, making good choices, being responsible and conflict resolution.

How does a student see the school counselor?  Either through self-referral, at the request of a parent, or the school administration, teacher or other staff can refer them.  A counseling permission form does need to be signed by a parent.
